So from what I've seen the paneling is easy to get off for previous Versa's but I can't seem to get it off on my 2012..my head unit is s*** in it considering i have the S model and def want to update it. I don't want to end up yanking the wrong piece out of order and have to live with a crappy interior forever..someone please help! (yes I know how to install it I'm not that retarded)

I'm might replace mine this week I think, will post pics if I do. but I am going to check some more prices for double din decks first. let me know if you decide to try. at the very least I might just pull at some panels to see whats what.

So both of the double din units I was looking at are getting crap reviews. now looking at a pioneer but its going for 1000$! nobody has anything bad to say about it though. so may have to hold off on prying apart the dash. did place an order for my new speakers, just hope they fit.

haha what i got was a pioneer too but just a touch screen 350 dollar one. i had my speakers done but by a shop since when you get an S model theres no back speakers or even wiring to the back speakers. wasnt about to mess with that.

so i got everything swapped out. all speakers and the deck. deck requires a trim kit, speakers should have a special mount. the rear door speakers shouldn't be a problem for mounting depth, however the front should be no more than 2-1/8" Mine were 2-1/16" and just fit without the extra mounting bracket I made for them.

the deck swap is easy. just pry up the section that houses the deck, from either side of the fan control knob. then pull. I'll have pics of everything posted later today. hopefully what I have described so far helps.

alright, after a few mins figuring out why we can't direct post pics, then figuring out how to go about posting. here's the deck install instruction pics.

http://s1054.photobucket.com/albums/s48 ... 20install/

tools needed, plastic putty knife (or something more rigid) (i used mine with the metal one) and a philips screwdriver, and a torx 20 driver.

pry up the base of the trim, then pull with hands. disconnect the 4-ways switch, i left the airbag light connector in place. unscrew the 4 screws ( make sure the bottom 2 you have a grip on, one of mine fell in behind and is still AWOL) and then the torx screws holding the radio. I reused the brackets for the new dble din i installed. and as mentioned before you will want a trim ring for the aftermarket.

the extra pics are of the car side harnesses. 2 of them I have no idea what exactly is happening but i do believe the larger one is for steering wheel controls and the other for the factory i-pod controller.

and here's the install instruction pics for sub power wire.

http://s1054.photobucket.com/albums/s48 ... 20install/

note* i don't have a pic of the engine block side, where the power wire comes out of, but it is the bundle of wires heading into the passenger compartment, and i found it easier to feed it thru from the passenger side with one of these.

i think both of these are really straight forward if you've done a deck or sub install on any other car. but contact/post me if you want to ask a specific question before you get started. I did a lot of poking around the car before I started either of these projects. pull at a panel or 2 if you want to gauge the force needed for pull stuff off when you do get going. especially if you've never done it before or feel uneasy about it.

Aaron.

wow my model is so downgraded my head unit is even worse than yours haha i guess thats what you get for getting the 10900 versa..my crimp caps come in tomorrow so ill prob do the work on my head unit tomorrow and my subs either tues or wed of next week when i get my wiring for it in..im really excited for these upgrades..i wanna take my sub wiring through my drivers side though since itll be closer to my battery and the rca and input wiring can just go under my steering wheel..know of any holes over there through my fire wall or am i gonna have a drill one?

yes, definitely go down the drivers side with the power wire, and the passenger side with the rca's. there is a rubber grommet that I had to pull back about 10 layers of tape and some of the split loom, then poke a hole with my phishing rod, and pull thru. i thought i had a good pic of it but i will take another and post if I can't find it.

and yeah we got the upgraded one since I REALLY wanted cruise control, but of course all the other stuff comes with it, which i didn't give 2 $hits about, since it was coming out anyway. still happy with the purchase tho.

yeah i guess the pics are in a back to front set up right now, but i added text and such to the one photo that does an ok job showing the grommet.

on a side note, if you get a deck with a gps or bluetooth or ipod that you want to go up the centre console here are pics for most of that. short of the blutooth since thats essentially the same as the gps just opposite side of car.

fixed order of pics

but do whats easiest, I adapted as I went with both these projects.

haha oh ya theyre taking up quite a bit but since they made the truck so huge on these things i still have enough for a few bags back there or something..much more room than when i had them in my 99 maxima haha but i know right?! considering i have a manual youd think they would add it but i guess not..i gotta talk to the parts dept up at the dealership to see if i can do an upgrade on that..if not its whatever but nice lets see that head unit!

Looks like your stock HU has the iPod controller... what are you planning on doing with it and how many stock speakers did you have? I have the '07 SL with the 7 speaker and I'm curious to see if the newer HU will connect in the older car.

I had the 4 speakers in each door. the stock hu did have a proprietary cable and connector for it. There is a special cable running from the centre console to various other connections I would think, which is the cable connecting to the proprietary plug.

In short, I think you'd have to strip some of the wiring out of the new one for your model to be fully functional with a newer hu.

I'll post some pics later if that doesn't make sense
