A lot of speculation abounds.
If the Maxima retains much of the Intima's styling, Nissan might as well have the grave dug and ready. In case Nissan designers didn't notice, massive overhangs and droopy rear ends went out in the '90s. The Intima looks like a Toyota Avalon or a Buick. It's an even more drastic step toward Fogeyville than the already geriatric '07 redesign was. And the fact that it'll likely retain a FWD drivetrain in order to keep from stepping on the G's toes is infuriating. No one in the market for a Maxima wants a G. And no one in the market for a G wants a Max. It doesn't matter which wheel drive either car is. They're entirely different cars.
I'm pretty much as frustrated as I can get with Nissan as far as the Maxima right now. Even if they manage to screw up the new one, I couldn't get much more upset. I wish they'd take a look at what Toyota did in the mid- and late-'90s. It'd serve as a nice mirror to them. Yes, you might sell a million bland front-drivers to moms everywhere. But no one actually WANTS those cars. No one will crave a drive in them. And you certainly won't earn yourself any loyal owners that way. You'll go a long way toward losing some, though.
If we get a FWD Intima lookalike with wood paneling and a CVT I'm going to vomit in Carlos Ghosn's coffee.
Look at those overhangs!!!!!!
