Hello,

This is my first time on this forum, and being a recently new Rogue owner (a few months now) it has been very educational. Unfortunately though I am having an issue I was not able to get full clarity on and was hoping to get a little advice. My rogue is a 2008 I got used and has been a wonderful flawless vehicle up until this issue. I am not very educated about cars and electrical components but over the last couple days I have learned the basics of HID lights.

Both of my Xenon low beam lights went out recently, independently over the course of a month or so (I believe they were the stock one that came with the vehicle). I bought a new set of 8000k 35w D2R's off amazon. When replacing the bulbs I noticed the passenger side was very clearly broken (glass broken and metal connection separated), but the driver side bulb looked relatively normal with no clear break anywhere. After putting the new bulbs in and starting it up the passenger side bulb lit up perfectly but the driver side came on for about half a second and then immediately shut off. I let it stay on for about 10 minutes, turned it off, and let it cool. Thinking I made a mistake or it was potentially a DOA bulb I swapped them and had the same problem with the driver side shutting off in about half a second. Ive tried to find someone with the same issue of it turning on for a fraction of a second and the immediately shutting off but I am not having much luck. The only thing I was able to find is a video on youtube of a Lexus doing the same thing:

He concluded with saying he took it took a dealership and was told it was the bulb. I checked the fuses, 10A's that are working. I am going to try to figure out how to swap the ballast and ignitor to test those in a couple days but before I do I wanted to see if anyone had any experience with an issue like this or any insight? Thanks for your help.

Even that a lot of people most likely would say it's a ballast I would say it could be a ground. Try to remove the bulb and put it back in. Try to light it up before installing to the headlight.

this is a common problem when buying after-market cheap bulbs and trying to use them with the stock ballasts.
did you buy a 55watt bulbs, or 35watt bulbs?

go on ebay, type in "phillips d2r" and find a new genuine cheap bulb and call it a day.
