2008 g35 (g37 body) 161K miles Shuts off at idle

Car is idling rough and cuts off intermittently when first started. 161K miles. Just put in new plugs hopping that was the issue. It did not fix the problem?
Any suggestions? Trying to save $105 diagnostics charge.

Inspect/change the air filter.

Car was shutting off at stop lights so I had to address today. Took it to A goodyear franchise.
diagnostics, no codes - $105
Throttle body clean - $105
3 step fuel and induction system cleaning
1.00 3-P fuel sys cleaner. $32.95 x 2 = $109.95
tot $346.22

Seems to have fixed the issue, I'm feeling abit violated but if it fixed it then life is good.

You should have waited a lil bit. The throttle body clean and idle relearn could have been done by you by about 7 dollar can of cleaner and info posted here. I had previously posted how to clean the throttle body and how to read your codes with a free app and cheap elm327 dongle that cost around 12 dollars. Now, the important thing for you is to know if the mechanic that cleaned your throttle body just cleaned with a can of spray with the throttle on the car from one side only, instead of removing the TB to clean it from both sides. If he did not removed it, then your problem might come back in a few months. He should have removed it and carefully clean it on both sides. This specific problem was not going to leave you stranded on the middle of the road. Buy the code reader dongle and get the free app or better yet buy the whole app and cable(60 dollars) and you will be able to read your codes instead of going to the dealer. Your first use will pay for itself. If your throttle was this dirty , you should check your vacuum system and make sure there is no sludge in your engine. Seafoam is a good treatment to do by yourself before changing the oil and then going full synthetic. Just something to consider in the future.

Well the problem is back and in fact the car stalled at idle twice today. I will check your post on DYI cleaning thanks again.

Also the fuel gauge will not show full, this has been going on for awhile. It seems to be getting worse. Today the car shut off again and the fuel gauge drop to empty (which it was not) then jumped back up to 1/2 where it should have been. Any clues, could this be part of the problem?

Your fuel gauge problem will probably be the cluster assembly and there are a lot of ebay ads selling a repair service for them for about 65 dollars. You send the cluster, they repair and send you back. Some of them will not charge you if the cluster test good for them. There is a simple test you can do reading the resistance of the wiring both when your car is full and when is not to determine is the resistance is good on the senders. I think there are 2 senders. Start with the easy part, go to the manual section and check where you have to measure and measure your senders. Your fuel filter might be dirty also, but that wont have to do with the fuel gauge but could be making it harder to start.Idk if that cleaning that you paid before included the maf sensor and new air filter?
