What plugs are acceptable? I hate to pay $8 or $9 for each plug, but I don't want to put the coils at risk either. Any suggestions?

Plugs in a Q last a minimum of 100,000 miles......if you are concerned about spending $100 for the correct plugs every 100,000 miles..........you bought the wrong car.

I've had some rough idle at start-up a couple times this year and since I'm at 102K miles, I decided to pull a plug and have a look. After getting to one, they need changed.

I'm always looking for ways to save a few bucks and wasn't sure if anyone had success running a different plug. With the wear on a 100K-mile engine, will the next set last the full 100K? If I'm going to have to change them again at 140K miles, I figured why spend a $100 if I can spend $40 and get the same results.

Nissan products tend to be very matched to the factory recommended spark plug, and respond poorly to alternative brands. On the early Q45, we have seen multiple failures of the Bosch +4 plugs, where they become a +3 or +2 plug - dropping metal into the cylinder. Not good!

Advance Auto Parts carries the correct plug for your Q. It's the NGK PLFR5A-11. When I looked it up they're $10.09 each, but google "Advance Auto Parts Coupon Code" and you'll find a discount of $30 off, and free shipping if you don't have a brick-and-mortar store nearby. AAP's coupon codes only work online, but you can select "store pickup" and go get them a few minutes after purchase. Gets you to $50 and change... There may be better coupon codes - that's just the first one I saw.

There are plenty on eBay as well... first hit was $66 with free shipping for the Nissan packaged NGK plugs. This site also had the "best offer" option that gives you a few tries to lowball a better price.

Good luck!

Heath

Good post. Thanks Heath. I have the correct plugs on order. They'll be in this weekend.
