2000 QX4 Oil filter

Any tips on how to get that sucker out of there without oil pouring out all over the front axle? I drained the crank case first but it really seems like there's oil still sitting on top of the filter.

Tired of wiping up my garage floor!

try using a generous size zipper bag and cover your filter while you are taking it off! =)

This is what i did in order not to get oil all over the frame and the garage floor not to mention my arm.

First i cut a piece of cardboard like this one here, but not this once, i used this one for illustration purposes


Then inserted between the hose running from the steering pump and the 2 hard lines in the steering shaft.


So it should look like this


Then make sure you pull towards and past the filter so that it will catch everything falling from filter once you remove it.


Dont forget to place your oil pan under the cardboard to catch the oil

Yeah, Ingenious Boost!! Worst part about oil change. Pickin up some Mobil Synthetic EP today and will try the cardboard method!

Also the best way i've ben able to prevent stains is to go down to the pet store and get puppy training pads. I never change oil with out some.
