1jz 240sx people question about cost on the swap

V8 240sx? Sure! If either the chassis OR the engine is non-Nissan (i.e. SR20 in an RX-7 or LS1 in a 240sx), we've done it.

personally i would buy a clip ($2,600) which includes trans, stock IC, piping, misc. crap you know you will need and other crap you can sell to cut the purchase price of the clip in half.

you need to modify the front crossmember and make a trans mount (tech2, mainstream, manictech can all do this as they have kits with DS, mounts, etc. for $1,500) OR you can do it yourself if you know how to weld and have some engineering/car install/swap experience.

add $2,000 for other crap that comes up in the process (power steering lines, fuel lines, 2jz water pump, extending wiring, coolant lines, etc.)

tech2 does have a good kit and is well worth it if you dont have the experience or time to do all the work.

in all i'd say $6,000 is a good number with a few minor upgrades (exhaust, FMIC and associate IC piping, etc.)

good luck!

personally I would do an ls1 swap before anything else. you can buy a cheap block fully built with forged internals all for less then 1800.

Built ls1 blocks

then add any head you want... based on whether you're going turbo or NA for another 1000 - 1200.

and lastly anywhere from 500 - 1000. for additional parts, like drive shafts and radiators. when your done you'll have spent a little less then a complete 1jz swap. and you'll have a engine with forged internals begging for you to add a turbo.

the swap can easily be done for under 4k-im talking from very recent experience. honestly i spent about 5.5k due to upgraded parts and extras(some still sitting in my garage)

you will need:

power steering nipple from toyota(you can use stock jz ps pump and 240sx lines and resevoir)

r154 tranny with 1jz bellhousing

tranny engine mounts-buy rucas for $350 and modify them or have someone modify them for ~$200(f@#$ $1200 mounts-that's plain stupid)

custom driveshaft(approx. 46.25" for any 240sx is what you'll need)

usdm complete 2jz waterpump

1jz flywheel

use current fuel lines and buy ~10' regular or stainless fuel lines to run to opposite side where jz fuel lines are on the motor

So if I can source a 1jz with a 5 spd tranny then I'm good on the drivetrain part right? Or do I still need these other additional parts?

I found this on ebay is this what I need http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...ories

I dont know about vvt, you should study the different types of motors. treat yourself to some literature, you havent read enough.

find a 1jz and 2jz faq about each motor and the various types.

then come back with more questions
