Hello All! Having some issues with the heat in my 97 q45. The blower motor fan has just started to need a small push (not even a tap, close to just touching it) in order to come on. Any advice or guide to checking/taking it out. As well is it safe to purchase one from junk yard. Any advice is much appreciated and thanks ahead of time.

If you're good with DC motors, it can't hurt to take it apart and clean it with some electrical contact cleaner. That said, the brushes are probably worn. They're not super-common failure items, so a junkyard take out wouldn't be unreasonable. If you can find an old-school electrical rebuilder in Raleigh, you might just have them put a new set of brushes in. Check out the service manual for info on removal... www.infinitiservicemanual.com

I'd take care of this soon. Having the fan on without it moving air is a quick way to burn out the fan amplifier.

Good luck!

Heath

Thanks Heath! It actually will blow air but at times needs a small touch on the side inorder to do so. Pretty cold here so I will probably try to take it out over the weekend as its supposed to warm up.

Just removed the blower motor( very simple!). A couple leaves and debris from trees were inside of the blades, so im hoping that was the issue. Getting ready to clean the motor and put back in to see if that solves the issue. Thanks again nico family and Heath!

Blower motor is extremely dirty....does the motor after cleaning need to be lubricated say with wd40?

It might be worth lubing it just a where the stub goes in to the socket on the back of the motor, and where it passes through the front cover. Too much and you'll create a magnet for more dirt. Some electrical contact cleaners have a light lubricant built in, so if that's the case I'd just rely on it.

Totally different car... I'd think 97-01 would work. There are a handful available near Raleigh at www.car-part.com
