As you said, I'm completely responsible for what happens with my shipment, and that's why I wanted to ask someone that actually went through the experience of getting these cars over here instead of relying on every little thing I see on the internet. Thing is, once the car reaches the US, it's final destination will be Puerto Rico (I can't ship the car directly, so it needs to go through a US port first). Being that Puerto Rico is a commonwealth of the United States, the same laws apply regarding 25 year rule and the like. And I completely agree, most of the shipping charges don't make much sense when you think about it, but in the end, you really can't argue, cause otherwise you ain't getting s#$% :P
Lasombra49 do you know if the the R32 engine have to be stock to be imported? I live in Japan and was looking to have my engine mod but afraid it will not pass EPA.. I was reading that regardless if it's 25 yrs, at port of entry US Customs may look into it...
Hello! here's an excerpt that I've found regarding EPA and engine modification :

"A vehicle is exempted if it has been 21 years or more since its original production year and it is in its original unmodified condition."

I'd leave it stock just to make sure it can be imported without any problems. Better give CBP a call if you're thinking of doing it: 877-227-5511. :).

Guys sorry to double post, but yesterday I asked a CBP import inspector that works at the port of Jacksonville if they would be going by the month and year of manufacture or just the year regarding 25 year old vehicles. He said they will in fact be going by MONTH AND YEAR, no exceptions whatsoever, and he told me how they seized a couple of skylines last week cause they had a later month of manufacture. Just wanted to give you guys a heads up if your port of entry is Jacksonville port. Trevor Cobb (guy that got first R32 GTR legally from Canada) seems to be a really lucky man :).

Sean Morris does not seem to have this problem in California though, as from what I've read they're only going by year of manufacture instead of month/year over there. Sean, any advice that can help me import earlier (changing port of entry?) is greatly appreciated. Thank you :).

Very nice that the USA finally allows to import some examples of the famous Godzilla !

If you need some company which is experienced in importing this kind of cars, try shipdei/Direct Express in California. Chris Ortiz is the man :-)
Also, as a offer for the community, If I can be of any help regarding imports, feel free to ask :-)

:). The CBP officer gave me a list of things I need to have when I go pick up the vehicle (That's if you're importing by yourself and not using a broker):

customs form 3299
epa 3520-1 and hs7 forms
vehicle title
bill of lading
copy of my passport
2.5% of the total invoice price of the car +9$ processing fee

Hope it helps :).

2,5% ? Is this the complete Import Tax ? In Germany (in fact mostly Europe) you need to pay 19-21% VAT and additional 10% tax. So roughly 29-31% of the invoice price.

That's correct, official word from the government is month/year, no exceptions. That's not to say that every single government employee is fully and properly trained or educated on the rules and regulations so you will see cars slip by in certain areas.

Hi NICOclub.

I'm looking to import a 1989 Nissan Skyline over here to the US within the next few months (before the prices get too crazy) and I was wondering about who / where I should stay away from and who the more reputable sellers are. I've been in contact with Japan-Partner.com, and they seem to know what they're talking about, and I've seen them being mentioned here. Another one I've seen mentioned here is JSP Trading, but they don't seem to have a very large inventory. Are there any other sellers that you guys know of that you'd recommend me to go to?

Thanks! :)

Too late. 89s are already overpriced.

Exactly, if you wanted a cheap 89 you should have bought one last year. Prices have been through the roof since January and it's not slowing down. A lot of folks are expecting to wait it out until later this year expecting to get a 89 in general, all I can say is good luck. When 89's pop up they sell within hours, first come first serve and it's not cheap.

...and most of the ones coming in are gonna be turds.

Think of it this way: How many '89 240sx's are still nice? Why not? The R32 is essentially, when you get down to it, the same car. Same steel, same construction techniques, same assemblers, same hardware, same technology.

Now, put that '89 240sx on an island nation, with salt spray, moisture, and questionable maintenance. No thanks.

While that pertains to a majority of the cars, not all are in bad shape. Are there many left, probably not, but there may be a few gems still around. My 89 is rust free. I have been over and under it, it is very much rust free.

The cars on mainland aren't that bad. The ones you have to be careful of are the ones from Okinawa. Smaller island. Central mainland inland areas still have lots of nice cars running around.

As for the prices, you're going to pay more for an unmodified GT-R. This is no joke, but I've see 89-90 R's bone stock going for mid to upper $20k range with between 80k-120k on the odometer. Cars with less than 80k are hitting $30k right now.

Oooooh...this, too.

Yours for the princely sum of $23,000-ish.

Nope. Cool stuff, but that's the last piece of the collection. :)

I see them listed in Nostalgic Hero every month, but there's a lot of back & forth between seeing an ad and making a deal.

So how is the waiting going? I'm dealing with the same company. Why do you think they have not updated their car list since 2011.

Hello! Did you buy an R32 GT-R from them? To answer you're question, I'm guessing since they're such a big company that deal in other products besides cars they don't bother as much to keep their website updated. I've seen quite a few Japanese car dealer websites doing the same thing, they just don't update it at a regular basis, if at all. When did you do business with them? I would like to see pictures of what they offered you if possible :). hit me up @ [email protected] . I'll be awaiting your reply.

OR, you can buy one from Canada, like mine. I have a 1990 GT-R for sale. Built in December of 1989. You can import it if you enter VCP-17 under Vehicle Eligibility on form HS-7 Declaration for U.S. Customs, for Show and Display use for the rest of the year, if you drive it less than 2,500 miles. When it becomes 25 years old based on the Date of Manufacture, you can license it for the road, no hassles.
I had an auction listing on Ebay last weekend, but they removed it because I had a link to 30 Photo-bucket pics of the car.
I have it posted on Nico as well. Find it and call me.

If you import a car under the S and D you will have to export it then import it again in order to change your importation status on the car threw customs.

Plus if your importing the car under code K for display only you still can't drive it around and must use it for business use only. Or face the "Penalties: Any person who knowingly makes any false or fraudulent statement, or omits or conceals a material fact can be fined up to $250,000 or im- prisoned for up to 5 years, or both (18 USC 1001). Any person who improperly imports a motor vehicle (including a motorcycle) or engine may be fined up to $32,500 per vehicle or engine (42 USC 7524), and may be subject to forfeiture of the entire importation bond, if applicable (40 CFR 85.1513), and the U.S.Customs Service may seize the vehicle or engine (19 CFR 162.21)."

A friend of mine wants to bring a r32 gtr over and was wondering if you being one to California does it have to meet the states motor vehicle standards?

From what I know as long as the car is 25 years old to the month of manufacturer. The car is federally legal to import to the states. Now as far as California goes you would have to look at their ridiculess laws and see if there are any stipulations. The ports customs officer would be a great place to contact for the information. Good luck

Nice BNR32!, saw pictures same day you sent them, sorry I didn't reply earlier. Recently got my BNR32 GT-R stock wheels a few days ago (cause I really don't like the rims I get with the car). Will probably sell them so if any body's interested let me know. I recently communicated with Jun through e-mail BTW. There's been a bunch of people ordering R32 GT-Rs from him so he's definitely really happy about that hehe. If you live in Florida we should definitely meet up come October :).
