hey man

I just did a ton of work to my car. Now it shakes at idle. It pulls pretty good, just that it shakes the car a little when it idles. I have to go and look tomorrow to see if my car still has AIV. Am I able to clean the unit if its there?

I am assuming this is the root of the problem. I tried disconnecting the MAF and the car dies. I just did fuel filter, fuel pump, new wires, oil change, transmission fluid change, rear diff flush, brake fluid flush.

Any idea?

Btw. I have a 1990 240sx. I am on a permit right now. My car was sitting for a while, so I ran some Motul Fuel Cleaner and filled her with 94. I've burned through half a tank and it still is rough at idle. The idle is at 800.

cleaning aiv wont help your idle. just disconnect the hose that goes to air box.

My car already has a cone intake. The MAF is plugged in, but there is a sensor that is hanging. I think it measures the air temperature.

Any idea why its shaking at idle?

It pulls nice and hard, but it shakes a little at idle.

can I just take that stuff out and shove it in a box in case I need it if I ever move to a place that has emissions? Tired of dealing with the EGR crap.

Must the AIV be in the compartment for California smog?

I went to a hardware store with a spare hacked up collector (down)pipe and found out that the pipe is a 15/16" thread. I couldn't find the proper bolt so I went to the plumbing section and picked up a 15/16" short end connector and a screw cap for the other end. Going to remove the AIV and RTV the threads on the threads and plug it up in a day or two.

It came with the S13 models. It makes the engine run richer during warmup. The ECU expects it.

I cleaned mine out and reinstalled it.
