It turns on but all you get is static...you only get static on AM not FM. I think the antenna is broken. Do you know how to get the radio out of the dash?

Time to throw that sucker in the trash. I finally threw out my 84' radio back in 1996, it was pretty decent for the 80's but no CD and the electronics in it are old. You can get a harness and an antenna connector and put in an aftermarket radio. If your not experienced in doing this stuff just take it to a good local place and replace it. If you have the GLL model you migth have to unwire the amp that is under the passenger seat, but best you have a place look at it. This might require a re-wire of the rear speakers, but still not worth trying to get that old sucker to work.

We bought a refurbished sony stereo online. Is there anyway that you can get into the dash to take the old stereo out?

the plastric trim panel comes out, with just a few screws, then it's just 4 more IIRC to pull the old one out, pretty simple, just look above the a/c controls for the upper screws and I think behind or below the ashtray IIRC

I thought you got a factory reman? if you want to run a modern radio you'll need the adapter plate, crutchfield or any decent car audio place will sell them

I definitely recommend getting the Wiring harness adapters. nissan/datsun to universal, and then <radio brand> to universal. that way you don't fark up your dash wiring and plugs, and it's super easy to install a new radio again 5 or so years down the road. not to mention to take your radio with you should you decide to sell, and want to plug the old crappy one back in. it's totally worth the maybe 30 bucks for the harness adapters.

Seriously.... Phar
