Well guys i have a 2001 pathfinder 4x4 93,xxx miles and when its in park and your rev it inbetween 1500-2000 RPM the truck surges up and dow between 1500-2000 RPM basicaly like its hitting a rev limiter/fuel cut but if i rev it higher it has no problem? only dose it in park or neutral and when in drive truck drives fine.... Dont kno if related but gas mileage has gone down and when in drive some times i can feel the motor slighly miss while on the brake at a light. As far as matinence goes i have recently changed the fuel filter, engine oil, belts(both), front and rear diff fluids, coolant, power valve screw issue with new gaskets, valve cover gaskets, and seafoamed engine(By the intake not oil). my tune up was done at 60k(spark plugs) and problem is still present. Has anyone delt with this issue before if so i could please use your help thank you.

P.S- i forgot to add that it did have the rear o2 sensor code stored with out ses light being on for one of the rears which was explaind by a tsb on here if that matters.

Try cleaning your MAF sensor. You'll need a tamper-resistant T20 Torx bit to remove the two screws which secure the MAF sensor, and some MAF sensor cleaner.

No SES light, correct? Get codes read anyway, there may be something stored (other than your rear O2 sensor which would not be causing your issues). Since you changed the fuel filter make sure both fuel hoses are on tight and not weeping any gasoline.

Make sure theyll take it back since some autoparts wont, especially with electonic part.

ml21,

Hi I currently had the exact same issue with my 2001 QX4.

Surging only happens when I put into either 'P' or 'N'.

Have you solved the problem?

If you have, could you tell me how you went about resolving the issue?

I'm thinking about taking my car to nearest Nissan/Infiniti dealership but it's about 300km away from my place.

Would that be safe for me to drive it with this condition?

Let me know what you think about it.

Thanks a lot,

I had this issue when my ivac decided to quit. Ask the dealer or someone with a consult computer to relearn idle and throttle position.

Got the same issue with my pathfinder too. I unplugged throttle position sensor (TPS/brown plug) and rpm gets worth and it jumps up and down between 1000 to 2000 at idle when car is parked. But, when I plug back TPS and then unplug throttle position switch which is right underneath the brown plug and it's gray then rpm becomes normal but I get really bad gas mileage.

Last but not least, no check engine lights even though I've unplugged the TPS sensor and switch (maybe I haven't driven it enough for check engine light to come up yet).

Please let me know if anyone got this problem fixed or knows what it takes for this problem to be resolved?

Thanks in advance!

rpm needle also bounces while driving at 1500-2000 rpm range
you can feel the car shaking when that happens but when you gas it and it passes 2000 rpm then it becomes normal as anything before 1500 rpm

Thanks and I will check the O2 sensors and report back

i had surges like this before and it turned out to be a huge crack on the intake tubing connected right at the throttle body, the crack was on the bottom and letting a lot of air in and causing all kinds of rpm surging, since the crack was on the bottom i had no clue until i took apart the whole intake, so you might want to do the same and check all vacuum lines while you're at it

I second this. Though I had a crack in the intake tube and a bad MAF sensor.

Im having the same problem with my 2001 QX4. The RPM jumps in (P) & (N) just changed out the IACV still having the same problem. Same IACV light P0505 comes back after clearing after the new install. Checked all sensors and still having the problem. Can someone give more insight on what it can be? Seems like everyone is having the same problem without a solution other than the throttle air leak. :bs:

I had the same problem and resolved it by replacing the TPS. When you say you tested all the sensors, what do you mean exactly? The FSM has a testing procedure for the TPS if you'd like to run it through its paces before springing for a new one.

Tested the Throttle sensor and tested IACV harness to make sure the EMC wasn't fried. I also changed out the IACV to a new one and still getting P0505  next step is changing out the harness to the IACV it's melted due to the coolant. Any pointers will help at this point =/
