So, I’m back with yet another issue. I was driving home from work one night in some heavy rain, and my car was fine until it got to 4th Gear. It just revved and did nothing else, like the car went into neutral. I pulled over, turned it off and turned it back on. As I’m leaving the parking lot, I feel the car struggling to accelerate and then my check engine light pops up. Luckily I was right in front of an autozone, so I had the codes pulled.

They pulled up P1757 and P1759. So, of course I did my research and found it might be an issue with the brake solenoid. Great. I dig deeper and found there’s a easier way to go about this fix. A pin inside the TCM might have snapped causing the “limp in mode.” So I drive the car home, let it sit over night.

Next day, I attempt to drive the car to the mechanic. Get in the car, head towards the exit for my neighborhood, and I hear a VERY aloud whine, and the car just began to rev again. I try to throw it in reverse... nothing but the noise. Drive. No change in RPMS. Just the noise.

So I was able to push it into a parking spot and put it in park. The noise continued while in park but died out eventually.

Here’s a video for reference. https://youtu.be/wvzkyX41Kb0

Can someone PLEASE help me? I’d greatly appreciate it.

P.S. it’s an 06 Base with 163,XXX. I don’t know the cars service history so not sure if it had transmission work done in the past.
Thanks,
Marquise

You have virtually found the answers to your problem. Usually, the problem is not with the solenoid valve, but as you have found out the disruption of a line in the tcm circuit board. It's either you repair the tcm or get a new one. A new tcm simply means a new valve body since the tcm is embedded in the valve body. There is a tsb on the issue (ITB10-006a) and typically the replacement of the valve body is recommended. However, it is also suggested to check the connector pins linking the tcm and valve body for damage. This makes sense since as you say you have no idea of previous repairs carried on the car in this regard.

Okay good. So do you think that issue would I guess, “disable” the transmission all together? And I assume with the noise, it’s a pump. Low on fluids possibly? I appreciate your response!

As for fluid level, you are the one to answer that. However,I don't think that has any thing to do with the issue. It's the TCM circuit that's short. It's not an unknown issue, and I think it has come up on a number of threads in the forum. Just ensure that you check the connector pins before you do any serious repairs.

That is true. Well in that case, I suppose I'll go out and see just how much is in there. And I'll make sure of that. See the thing is, I have mechanics that are willing to look at it, but the issue is, they are claiming the entire transmission should be replaced without looking at it, Aamco wanted to charge me $700 just to take it out, tear it down and look at it. THEN used the scare tactic on me, saying they couldn't guarantee that it would work after they looked at it. I wan't to take a stab at doing it since it seems so simple but, I'm afraid of messing something else up...

If you feel able and inclined, I'd say you take a stab at it following the lead from the video. Ascertain the state of the TCM, then decide what repairs or replacements you want.

Okay so before I had an opportunity to do the TCM fix, another issue arose.

The car makes a noise, and will not move in any gear. It feels as though the transmission engages when I put it in reverse or drive, but it will not move at all, and still makes the noise.

I did however put it in neutral after adding more transmission fluid for 5 minutes. Put it in drive, the noise came, but stopped. And it drove forward and in reverse.

Could that be a torque converter issue?

I think from what you have mentioned and what others have posted on the issue, I'd address the valve body first. Just like I assume you chose to do, I eschew any advice to immediately replace the transmission... although be aware that you might actually have to replace the transmission eventually.

To clarify, your car is base meaning RWD, right?

When you get a chance, type your key words into the search bar (P1757, P1759 and especially "brake solenoid") and see what others have done.

So how much fluid did you add, and what is the new level?

Right. I figured that is what was making it go in to "limp mode."

But the issue now is the car will not move, and just makes a noise. I added a quart of fluid, and the level is normal now. I smelled the fluid before I added the new, and it didn't have a burned smell.

And yes the base, RWD.
