Hi All - I have been reading about the steering rack problems encountered on the 06 M35x models. I just wanted to clarify if anyone has also experienced the steering rack problem on the 06 M35 sport model, non all wheel drive? This way if the problem persists on this model, I can have the dealer fix mine with the updated steering rack.I appreciate the help!

Is your M making a similar noise?

The applicable parts section of the bulletin is model specific and I have personally seen no Ms other than 35xs make this noise. Even on ones that were not complaining of it.

There are many things that may cause a noise like this in the front end under certain conditions. Trying to diagnose them over the internet is not so easy for a technician or an owner. I can't think of what it must be like for you guys on a given day I drive 3 or more Ms of varying years and mileage, I hear all kinds of things and all you guys have is the one example.

If you have a description of the type or point of origin of your noise maybe we can help you a little more.

Thanks for the info Steve. Thankfully my car isn't making any noises..I had just read about the steering rack update on the X's and was wondering if it applied to the non-X's too. I was having that tire pull...turns out it was tramlining that I read about on here..had new tires put on today though and that has disappeared!

That's good to hear about your trambling resolution and lack of inappropriate noises

Many new M owners are surprised just how sensitive to tires these cars really are. It has allot to do with the suspension geometry, spring rate, and steering setup. The M leans toward the performance (although hotly debated here) aspect moreover the cloudlike ride of the older Q45.

What kind of tires did you put on it?

I put on the Goodyear Eagle GT's....decided them over the Yoko S-drives. I like them so far...smooth ride, not loud, good traction, no tramlining! And they were descent price.

Yes, w/the X it is definitely an issue. In my opinion before anyone messes w/the steering rack, I'd get the tires changed if they are the Goodyear RSA's. From what I've experienced personally and read herein in the past x2 years the tires seem to be the major problem regardless of steering rack replacement.
