This is in my Mom's coupe and just happened. She took it to two places. Dealer said the radio would need to be replaced. Factory is $2,800 and "aftermarket" is much less.

Does that sounds right, that replacing the radio will correct the A/C always being on? Even with an "aftermarket" unit? By aftermarket I assume they mean a rebuilt factory unit or something that looks close to factory otherwise how could that control the A/C system?

Has anyone here had this problem? How did you fix it?

Thanks guys and hope you can help.

I got aftermarket. My a/c was fine. After installed screen now my a/c won't get cold. It comes in...but won't get cold. Freon full. Shop told me to get a different head unit or out old one back in.

Make sure the cabin temperature tube is plugged into the back of the panel under the steering wheel above your knees. A tube plugs in on the right side. It's a common thing to skip and it will affect your AC.

I had the exact same issue on my G. I bit the bullet and bought a used head unit off eBay, fixed the problem.

I had the same problem on my 03 sedan a while ago. I took it to the infiniti dealership who replaced a component inside the head unit. They mentioned that this was a new issue and that the upgraded component will ensure that this does'nt happen again. Cost me 350$ approximately (part +labor) but touch wood, its been working fine ever since.

Problems with the A/C and controls going out is not a new issue. Sounds like Infiniti was feeding you a line.

Definitely not a new issue lol, the TSB that deals with this problem is dated March 24, 2003. The part about the upgraded component isn't BS though. More than likely the service advisor (aka glorified salesman who knows nothing about service nor parts nor satisfying a woman) you talked to didn't know the exact details and just fed you some BS.

The thing about the A/C and radio control problem is that most early (03-06) G's can have the issue, but only a small number of them between a certain VIN number range from 03 are eligible for the cheaper TSB specified part. If your VIN falls outside of the range and you're having the issue, the parts are full price. Which, depending on how nice your local parts guy wants to be, would be around $500 for a head unit and $600+ for the finisher/faceplate that contains the control circuit board, plus installation of course.
