02 Pathfinder OBDII CODE P0420??

Hello All! New to the site and from IOWA and looks like an great one!Question: I have a 2002 Pathfinde SE 3.5 5 speed and Bought a good scanner and CODE P0420 keeps coming on after clearing and it says Catalyst system efficiency below threshold bank 1.Could someone tell me what I need to replace to fix this problem?Also are there any service recalls or campaigns from Nissan to get replaced for free? Thanks all.
Also want to buy some good used aftermarket 16"wheels,Roof basket,Etc..Where are the classifieds for pathfinder parts?Thanks Born

Welcome to NICO.

There are no recalls for catalytic converters, and the factory emission warranty of 8 years/80,000 miles has expired by now. Very rarely, replacement of the downstream oxygen sensor can correct the P0420 code. More often than not, however, the cat must be replaced. From what I've read, Eastern makes good aftermarket catalytic converters. You can get this catalytic converter from RockAuto for around $190 shipped if you enter discount code 85597063729583 into the "How Did You Hear About Us?" box.

I had that code come up first every couple of months, then every month. I used the trick of adding a spacer inbetween the sensor.

I did that close to a year ago and I haven't had a SES light since.

Cost like 5 bucks and I even have an extra.

Granted, your Pathy may be screwed up in some other way, but this worked for me.
