I've been getting this grinding/squeeking sound for a few days now.Sounds almost like rubber against metal. As far as I can tell it's coming from the front. Could it be a bearing out? The sound speeds up along with the car and I can feel it come thru the steering wheel, as my wheels turn...you can hear a ruuub....ruuub...ruuub. Sound horrible!!!

Any ideas on what this might be??? I need to bring it in to the local Nissan shop this week!

does it change when you apply the brakes? or does it change if say your cruising at a steady speed and you gently rock the car from left to right[changing the weight from the right side of the car to the left and back]

If its the first one it may be you need a brake job. If its the second one its likely a wheel bearing. if it is a wheel bearing it will be the bearing oppisite the direction your turning the wheel. I have seen this on a few A33 maxs.

No change with applying the brakes. And yes...it does sound like the grinding sound gets worse with rocking the car from side to side. Thanks for the input!!! Thank God for extended warranty...

The side to side changes sounds like a bearing. Jack up a side and see how much play you have.

I don't believe wheel bearings are covered via extended warrany.

Took it to Neil Huffman this afternoon. They said the work will be covered by warranty...so I'm happy...Hopefully I'll have my ride back tomorrow sometime.

and ya...it was a bearing

Hey did you ever get the service recall done to your car? There was one for a crank sensor, and another for transverse link replacement. Applies to 2002 Maxima, the following Vehicle Identification Number Ranges:JN1DA31A*2T000011 - 002829;JN1DA31A*2T300022 - 317004;JN1DA31D*2T200011 - 207916;JN1DA31D*2T400020 - 442089.

Yep, Crank sensor fixed...transverse link fixed, been bout a year since that recall. Thanks! Just got the max back from Neil Huffmans...no more rubbing anymore. Bearings/hubs were shot...prolly thanks to these local pot holes, & normal wear and tear.

sounds so nice now...

FEZZIK: How much did your Cattman strut tower brace run you??? Next thing for me is my suspension upgrade...I like how your FSTB looks compared to the CE.com one.
